    We offer free, confidential and independent advocacy support to Halton residents who need help to have their voice heard in relation to health and social care needs.

    Healthwatch Halton provides the NHS Independent Complaints Advocacy Service (ICAS) for Halton. The advocacy service helps people to understand how the NHS complaints process works and supports them where needed.

    Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy was introduced as part of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. This gives people who have an impairment, injury or a disability which results in them being unable to make a specific decision for themselves, the right to independent support and representation.

    If you are being detained under the Mental Health Act, you are legally entitled to help and support from an Independent Mental Health Advocate (IMHA). It is your right to be referred to an IMHA if you are detained under most sections of the Mental Health Act, whether you are in the hospital or on a Community Treatment Order (CTO).

It takes forward the Government’s commitments to reform social care legislation and to drive up the quality of care.
