Young Carers Action Day 2023
There are an estimated 800 000 young carers in the UK.
It is easy for young carers to start feeling overwhelmed because of everything they need to do for their caring role on top of all their schoolwork and revising for exams. Young carers told the Carers Trust that it doesn’t need to be this way. They think the things that would make them feel less overwhelmed, healthier and happier are:
- improved support in schools
- more access to breaks,
- better access to counselling support
- and more financial support.
Rights for young and young carers in England
- See the Carers Trust booklet Know your Rights: Support for Young Carers and Young Adult Carers in England.
- LawStuff gives free legal information to young people in England. LawStuff is run by Coram Children’s Legal Centre, which provides more detailed information both over the phone and online.
- The Children’s Society's website also has information for children and young people in England on your rights.
- The Office of the Children’s Commissioner for England speaks up for children and young people so that policymakers and the people who have an impact on their lives take their views and interests into account when making decisions about them.
