Pharmacy First - a view from Halton October 2024

During August and September 2024 we visited pharmacies across Halton to speak with patients and gather their views about the Pharmacy First service.

This report is based on the responses of 166 people and additional feedback received from Pharamcy staff.

Summary

  • 39% hadn’t previously heard about Pharmacy First.
  • 91% of those who had used the service rated it as ‘good’ or very good’.
  • Just 7% said they knew a lot about the services offered.
  • 51% of those who had heard about Pharmacy First had also used it.
  • Most people were unaware of the full range of services offered by Community Pharmacies.

 

Issues highlighted include:

  1. Awareness raising: Consideration needs to be given on how to raise public awareness in general of Pharmacy First and the other services offered by Community Pharmacies.
  2. Referrals: There's a need for consistency in the referrals of patients for Pharmacy First.
