Active Travel for better wellbeing

An innovative new service has launched in partnership with Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Halton Travel Well is being delivered by local social enterprise, Wellbeing Enterprises CIC and aims to improve people's health and wellbeing and promote the uptake of active travel options in work and leisure.

Travel Well Link Workers James and Mike will be based in the Halton Health Hub in Runcorn Shopping City to help local people explore ways to boost wellbeing and address any practical social and emotional challenges. “Patients and the public can pop in for a chat with us and we can provide one to one tailored support as well as access to wellbeing and active travel activities like cycling and walking groups.” explains James Smith

To celebrate the launch of the service Wellbeing Enterprises CIC are offering a chance to win a brand new bicycle. All you need to do is come along and chat with James or Mike and complete a short active travel survey which takes no longer than two minutes.

Mark Swift, Founder and CEO of Wellbeing Enterprises stated: “Halton Travel Well offers a unique opportunity to access wellbeing and active travel advice from Halton Health Hub in Runcorn Shopping City. You can gather information on local cycle routes, participate in active travel groups and feel the wellbeing benefits of physical activity”

Lucy Gardner, Director of Strategy and Partnerships at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals said: “We are delighted to be able to support Liverpool City Region and Wellbeing Enterprises in delivering their Travel Well service from our Halton Health Hub. Our ambition has always been for the hub to be a focus for wider health and wellbeing support for our communities as well as offering NHS outpatient services in easily accessible locations. We hope our patients and local people will find it a useful addition to the services on offer.”

Simon O’Brien, Walking and Cycling Commissioner for the Liverpool City Region, said: “It’s fantastic to see this new social prescribing service being launched in Halton. Not only is cycling and walking great for air quality and the environment, but it’s also brilliant for our physical and mental health and wellbeing. Studies have shown regular walking and cycling can cut the risk of health problems like heart disease or stroke by up to a third. And there’s lots of evidence that suggests being more active can help tackle stress and anxiety.
