Stress Awareness Day

The first Wednesday in November is National Stress Awareness Day. This is an opportunity to think about the effects of stress, physically and mentally, as well as how we can manage feelings of stress.

Most people feel stressed sometimes and some people find stress helpful or even motivating. But if stress is affecting your life negatively, be it physically, mentally or both, there are things you can try that may help.

It is important to make time for yourself to feel less stressed and more relaxed. Take time to do something you enjoy.

These activities may include:

  • Reading a book
  • Watching TV
  • Taking a bath
  • Exercising
  • Going for a walk
  • Enjoying time in nature
  • Listening to music, audiobooks or podcasts
  • Sleeping
  • Catching up with friends
  • Saying no to things (it’s OK to say no and cancel things if you don’t feel up to it right now)
  • Trying a new hobby
  • Cooking or baking

If you feel you cannot manage the stress you are feeling, it is important to reach out and talk to someone.
