Get vaccinated. Get winter strong.
These vaccines are important because our immunity reduces over time, whether we have this from a vaccine or from catching them. Viruses also adapt to survive and reproduce and the Pirola COVID-19 variant is an example of this.
Eligible people for COVID and Flu boosters include:
- aged 65 or over (including those who will be 65 by 31 March 2024)
- have certain health conditions or a learning disability
- are pregnant
- live with someone who has a weakened immune system
- are a carer
- are a frontline health or social care worker
- live in a care home
-
Most children can get the children's flu vaccine. This includes children who were aged 2 or 3 years on 31 August 2023, school-aged children (Reception to Year 11) and children with certain health conditions.
Data from last years autumn’s programme showed that those who received a booster were around 53% less likely to be admitted to hospital with COVID-19 in the 2 to 4 weeks following vaccination, compared to those who did not receive a booster.
