I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1981 and worked in both Acute and Community Services during my career. I then moved from Clinical Nursing and worked for The Royal College of Nursing in a management position. I retired in 2015 and have since been involved as a Volunteer with local Health Services and was also on the Lord Chancellors Advisory Committee to the Magistracy. I then took up my Role at Healthwatch Halton as Chair of the Health Advisory Board in 2019.
HAB Vice Chair
I am a retired Civil Engineer. On my retirement about twelve years ago I wanted to put something back into the community. Healthwatch provided an interesting and valuable volunteer role. Acting as a “critical friend” to the NHS and Social Care Services I feel we help the liaison between our community and these services. It was good to help with the communications during the pandemic. We are looking at further re-organisations in the NHS with the new Integrated Care Systems which will require consultation and explanation work by Healthwatch.
I started to volunteer with Healthwatch Halton in October 2017 because I felt the organisation shared my belief in ensuring the concerns of the people in the local community regarding health and social care issues are brought to the attention of the key decision makers. I have been involved in Outreach activities, and the Enter and View programme which have proved crucial in gathering evidence-based feedback to underpin recommendations for improvement. Two years ago I joined the Advisory Board as I felt the governance experience I built up during my business career would add value and aid Healthwath Halton in realising its objectives.
